AGROFORESTRY IS THE WAY TO GO.

The rate at which the world is loosing forests is worrying and this is the reason we are experiencing long droughts which results to hunger.

The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations 2021 report indicates that the world loses at least 10 million hectares of forestry every year through deforestation and lumbering.

The State of the World’s Forests report of 2022 gives a number of ways in which reforestation can be done so as to halt the deforestation rate and tackle some of the world’s crises like climate change and loss of biodiversity.

This report is in line with the declaration of Glasgow Leaders' Declaration on Forests and Land use where they pledged to eliminate forest loss by 2030 and support restoration of forests.
People can plant crops for consumption as well as take care of trees as trees bring rain their crops will flourish.

Restoring the degraded lands and practicing agroforestry can leave a positive mark to the fight against climate change as well as food security across the world.

The Kenyan government has been making strides in ensuring more land is covered by forestry in the recent past by running tree planting campaigns  and the new administration hinted on the return of Shanba system, an agroforestry model.

Agroforestry should be boosted by providing a direct funding towards reforestation and afforestation as well as creating awareness on suitable forest use as a way of exploiting the economic value of forests.
